発生講座ではドジョウを中心にクローン生殖の研究を進めてきましたが、2020年度から新たにメダカを仲間に加えました。ドジョウとメダカの共通飼育水槽の中を眺めると、まるで一昔前の田園風景が想起されて毎日ほのぼのしています。メダカは飼育が容易で、世代交代が早く、遺伝子導入・改変技術を含む各種実験方法が確立しているためモデル実験魚として世界中で使用されています(英語でmedakaと書きます)。一方で魚類は脊椎動物の中で最も多様性に富んでおり、メダカの研究だけでは見出せない面白い生命現象に溢れています。ドジョウ研究で見出されたクローン生殖もその一つです。本講座ではモデル魚種であるメダカとドジョウのような非モデル魚種を用いて、種を超えて共通する生殖の仕組みを遺伝子レベルで明らかにしたいと考えています。
