Scholarships
Many types of scholarships are available for international students who wish to study at Hokkaido University:
1. Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. There are two main ways to apply for these scholarships:
- Embassy recommendation(through a Japanese Embassy in your home country) and
- University recommendation (selection of new applicants before they arrive in Japan).
Applications should be made before matriculation, either through a Japanese embassy or consulate (embassy recommendation), or through the host university in Japan (university recommendation). Most MEXT Scholarship students at Hokkaido University earned their scholarships through embassy recommendations.
