The Shipboard LAN System comprises various hardware and software devices for collecting, recording, and employing data output from navigation and research instruments; This system also supports navigation and research projects. A number of LAN outlets and wireless LAN Access points are placed onboard. They enable users to gain access to a network anywhere on shipboard while simultaneously showing data and graphs on the displays of PCs, tablet computers, etc. In addition, the Shipboard LAN System provides access to the Internet and the Intranet (HINES: Hokkaido university Information NEtwork System) of the Hokkaido University from the ship.
